Voting FAQs

Q. When do I vote?
A. On April 9th, 2011 from 9 am to 8 pm.

Q. Where can I vote?
A. You can vote by mail-in ballot, or at any of the 14 polling stations.

Q. How do I know if I'm eligible to vote?
A. In order to vote on April 9th, you must be St'át'imc and at least 18 years of age.

Q. How many votes are needed for the agreement to go through?
A. Of the people that vote, each community needs to have 50% plus 1 vote 'yes' to go through.

Q. Can I vote in another community besides my own?
A. Yes, but someone at that polling station will phone or email your community and have your name crossed off the list.

Q. How do the mail-in ballots work?
A. The ratification team obtains your last known address from each band office, and sends each eligible voter a mail-in package.

Q. If I send in a mail-in ballot, can I still vote at the polling station on April 9th?
A. Only one vote from each individual will be counted. If you vote at a polling station after sending in your mail-in ballot, your mail-in ballot will become invalid.

Q. What are the voting procedures?
A. The vote will be carried out by voting procedures that have been put in place by each community and as discussed in the meetings. The electoral office is an experienced and independent team charged with overseeing this election. Members will know the results fairly quickly, and can obtain copies of the voting procedures.

Q. If I postmark my ballot before April 9th, will my vote be counted?
A. No, we must receive your ballot at the Lillooet Tribal Council office on or before April 9th before the polls close.

Q. When will we know the outcome of the vote?
A. Counting will start and hopefully be complete on April 10th.
